'The September Issue' - Anna Wintour Doco

'This type seems so large and pretentious, it looks like it's for blind people.' rofl, she does have a sense of humour.

"The September Issue, a riveting film that makes The Devil Wears Prada look like an episode of The Care Bears. The cameras follow British-born Wintour and her army of editors for much of 2007, as they create the biggest edition of the fashion year (the September issue, which that year had 840 pages, 727 of which were adverts)."

Prefab Housing - Daniel Libeskind

This is prefab! Definately want one of these. Now everyone can own a piece of starchitect magic.

Really great website, with HQ vids of daniel talking about his design, check it out at http://libeskind-villa.com/

"Daniel Libeskind’s recent project, a series of signature prefabricated homes, is a drastic change from his usual commissions. Although a smaller project (5,500 square foot), the residence strongly speaks his language of design with drastic angles, strong geometries and seamless transitions between spaces. In this ever-growing age of prefab dominance, Libeskind’s villas will be able to be shipped to almost any location in the world within months, and will be assembled on site by a team of experts within weeks.

“This is really the first time I have taken on the issue of doing something which is a limited artistic edition of a new space, a new way of living….I did everything in reverse in my career. Most people start with small projects and go on to design a museum. I started with a museum,” Libeskind commented.

Crafted from premium materials, the living space meets the highest standards in design, craftsmanship and sustainability. The villa’s exterior is clad in the same standing-seam zinc as Libeskind’s Jewish Museum in Berlin. The zinc, which is attached to the house’s wooden frame, provides a solar thermal system. Electric power is generated from photovoltaic thin film and rain water is harvested from the rooftop for use in the garden’s irrigation system. The villa is classified as a low-energy structure as it successfully complies with the tough energy-saving standards of Germany’s KfW40 code, which indicates a thermal energy consumption of less than 40 kWh/m²a.

Libeskind pays special attention to creating a highly sustainable entity without sacrificing the overall design of the project. Although the exterior is strong, the interior offers a softer and comfortable atmosphere of living with its asymmetrical plan. Upon entering, a grand room highlights the geometric space and offers uninterrupted views of the gardens. Full height windows continue to flood the interiors with sunlight and create a transparent environment. The sculptural living space is certainly not the conventional house, nor the conventional prefab project because it challenges the traditional. Although designed as a prefabricated residence, the villa includes several custom features and will take several months to assemble on site. By offering regional exclusivity, the rush to create neighborhoods of Libeskind prefabs will be prevented."

Chatou & Eva's Bed - h2o architectes

Damn..this is the shiz, who wouldn't wanna chill in these cribs!

"Chatou by Paris-based h2o architectes is a garden pavilion where the furniture forms the entire interior. Arranged on four split levels, the 12m² building is intended for a teenager to live within the garden of the family home. Made from silver birch plywood, the furniture allows for sleeping, living, studying and washing.

This little building, located in the owner’s backyard, was neglected for years. The aim of the project was to provide a private space for a teenager looking for his independence. Therefore, the program includes elements necessary for an autonomous life including sleeping, living, studying and washing. It had been decided between the parents and teenager that meals would still be a shared time in the family home."

"The creation of a “multiple-use furniture” in the middle of the space allows to add some depth to the primary basic partition. It afford passages, secret storage, bed, office… in a funny way. The specific blend generates a concentrated typology of spaces and situations in perpetual renewal. The new partition is porous creating steps, cavities and niches which suggests many possibilities for appropriation (climbing, hidding, drawing, etc…)."

The High Line, NYC - Diller Scofidio + Renfro

Can't wait to check this out next time I go to NYC.

"Section 1 of the High Line, a 1.5 mile long park on an abandoned elevated railway, opened earlier this week in New York. The winning proposal for a competition in 2004, the design is a redevelopment of an abandoned, elevated freight-railway that spans 22 blocks through the west side of Manhattan.

Inspired by the melancholic, found beauty of the High Line, where nature has reclaimed a once-vital piece of urban infrastructure, the design team aims to refit this industrial conveyance into a post-industrial instrument of leisure. By changing the rules of engagement between plant life and pedestrians, our strategy of agri-tecture combines organic and building materials into a blend of changing proportions that accommodates the wild, the cultivated, the intimate, and the hyper-social."

'I'm Not Alone' - Calvin Harris

New Apple iPhone 3G S

The rumour came true, however not so sure there is anything that isn't available in the 3.0 software realease that justifies the upgrade?

"Apple today officially
announced the iPhone 3G S, the sequel to the iPhone 3G, with a June 19 initial release date. The added “S” stands for “speed,” a reference to the device’s faster processing and potential data transfer speeds. Available in four models—16GB white or black, and 32GB white or black —the iPhone 3G S preserves much of the look and feel of the iPhone 3G, adding the following new features.

* A 3.0 Megapixel still camera with VGA video recording capabilities, autofocus, 10cm macro distance mode, auto white-balance, and tap-to-focus features. This camera promises to take more detailed, sharper still pictures than before, with improved low-light performance, as well as enabling users to create and edit videos directly from their iPhones for instant sharing over email, MobileMe, YouTube, or MMS.

* Voice control, allowing users to dial out by saying the person’s name or speaking the numbers. The feature also works for audio playback, letting users play music by artist, album or playlist, activate the Genius feature by saying “play more songs like this,” play, pause, activate shuffle, skip tracks, and ask “What’s playing right now?”

* Digital compass with an accompanying Compass application and Maps integration, so it automatically orients any map to the direction you are facing.

* VoiceOver voice prompting and accessibility features, including Universal Zoom, and Mono Audio so that left and right channel audio can be blended into both earphones.

* Improved battery life, with 9 hours of Wi-Fi internet browsing, 10 hours of video, 30 hours of audio playback, and 12 hours of 2G talk time, compared to 6, 7, 24, 10, and 5 hours, respectively, on the iPhone 3G. 3G talk time remains 5 hours.

* Nike+ support, following the same included app and $19 Sensor accessory model as the iPod touch 2G"

Heaven At Nite - Kid Cudi

GTbyCITROEN

"GTbyCITROEN is the amazing concept car that caused serious drooling at last year’s motor show in Paris. Although expected to remain a concept for life, it’s rumored that the French from Citroen plan to send it to the production lines sometime soon. More to it, the hybrid supercar is expected to make its official debut on track at this year’s 24 Hours Nürburgring race that starts tomorrow (May 23). A futuristic design that packs amazing specs (752 hp and 62mph in 3.6 seconds), the GTbyCITROEN will definitely cause some serious head turns."

Supercar Re-envisioned - Emil Baddal

"Iranian designer Emil Baddal hopes to bring a breath of fresh air to the world of automotive design. Baddal has captured the attention of fellow auto designers with his concept studies and illustrations of futuristic Lamborghinis, BMWs and Ferraris. Baddal’s designs are a bit edgier than traditional models, with sharper angles and lines that provide a refreshing perspective on the supercars of the world. While it is likely we’ll never see these beasts on the road, we’re quite happy admiring Baddal’s work from afar."

High Line Stories - New York

"New York City will soon be receiving a brand new stretch of green space as the once-abandoned High Line railway is renovated to become a lush public park. Designed to capture the majesty of both nature and NYC’s industrial ruins, the first section of the elevated garden promenade is set open this June, and an online video series on the Sundance Channel gives an excellent first look at the project. Featuring ten short narratives, the series shows the diversity of support that the project has garnered over the years — and how far the High Line has come, from being a neglected “industrial relic” to a much-anticipated “park in the sky.”

The Age of Stupid

"Pitched to be this year’s most talked-about climate change film, The Age of Stupid is a new movie from director Franny Armstrong (of McLibel) and producer John Battsek (of One Day In September). In this epic tale, Pete Postlethwaite stars as a man living alone in the devastated future world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?"

Fjall Ski Lodge, Falls Creek, Melbourne - Hecker, Phelan & Guthrie

"Taking inspiration from classic European chalets, sophisticated, design-led ski resorts and lodges are popping all over the world. From Australia to Austria, the new ski holiday is as much about the experience of kicking back in beautiful surroundings at the end of a long day of skiing, as it is about the runs. Paul Hecker is the interior designer behind some of the most beautiful public interiors in Australia, including the Prince Hotel in Melbourne and more recently in Sydney, the Ivy and stunning adjoining penthouse hotel suite. The latest from Hecker and his Melbourne-based team at Hecker, Phelan & Guthrie, is the new ski lodge, Fjall, located at Falls Creek in Victoria.

Fjall lodge consists of spacious, private apartments. With the Fjall, Hecker has taken the modern Scandinavian chalet aesthetic up a notch. Working with a crisp, very Nordic palette of charcoal, white, black and pale gray, Hecker brings a strong sense of nature into the interiors, working with smoked and limed oak timber floors and wall paneling, and custom-designed oak timber joinery. Calacutta marble, heated balconies and cozy window banquettes complete the sophisticated space."
